PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based coating comprising a resin composition, and to provide a method for treating wastewater containing the coating. SOLUTION: The water-based coating comprises an aminoformaldehyde resin introduced with carboxy group and/or carboxylate group, being easy in wastewater treatment. Specifically, in this coating, the total amount of the carboxy group and/or carboxylate group introduced into the aminoformaldehyde resin is 0.2-1.5 mol/kg.
