PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high quality copper for wire rod and a producing method therefor suitable to a magnet wire etc. SOLUTION: In the copper for wire rod produced by continuously rolling a copper cast block, this copper wire rod is used for copper cast block containing blow holes the inner diameter of which is≤3.0 mm. In the method for producing the copper 11 for wire rod , continuously rolling the copper cast block 7 produced from a continuous caster, before continuously rolling, the copper cast block 7 is subjected to light rolling-reduction rolling having 8-20% rolling-reduction ratio at 800-950°C.
