PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a terahertz wave generator which outputs a terahertz wave on preferred conditions, and to provide a measuring instrument using it. SOLUTION: The terahertz wave generator is constituted by an exciting light supply 1 which includes a laser light source 10 and an optical branch component 11, and supplies exciting light used for generation of the terahertz wave, and by a terahertz wave generating portion 2 which includes two terahertz wave generating elements 21, 22, and incides the exciting light branched by the optical branch component 11 to the generating elements 21, 22 to generate the terahertz wave. Moreover, a timing adjuster 3 including optical delaying components 31, 32 is installed between the exciting light supply 1 and the terahertz wave generator 2. The timing adjuster 3 controls the output conditions of the terahertz wave by adjusting incident timing of the exciting light to each of the generating elements 21, 22.
