The present invention provides (i) a complex of the formula M2L3, wherein M is Cd (II) and each ligand, L, is independently either a tetrabenzoporphyrin ligand or an azatetrabenzoporphyrin ligand and (ii) methods for synthesizing the complex. The present invention also provides methods for forming a thin film of this complex, for example use in a conducting device and use in detecting oxidising substances.
