<p>as-Indacene derivatives (I) are new. as-Indacene derivatives of formula (I) are new: B 1, B 2rings of formula (a)-(g); A 1>, A 2>1,4-phenylene with 0-2 CH groups replaced by N, optionally substituted with 1-4 of CN, halo, A and OA; or 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-cyclohexenylene or 1,4-cyclohexadienylene with 0-2 CH 2 groups replaced by O or S, optionally substituted with halo; A : 1-6C alkyl optionally substituted with F and/or Cl; Z 1>, Z 2>single or double bonds, CF 2O, OCF 2, CH 2CH 2, CF 2CF 2, CF 2CH 2, CH 2CF 2, CHFCHF, COO, OCO, CH 2O, OCH 2, CF=CH, CH=CF, CF=CF, CH=CH or ethynylene; R 1>, R 2>H, A', halo, CN, SCN, NCS or SF 5; A' : 1-15C alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyl or alkynyl with CH 2 groups optionally replaced by O, S, SOO 2, CO, COO, OCO or OCOO, optionally substituted with one of CN or CF 3 or one or more of halo; m, n : 0-3; X 1>, X 2>H, A", halo, CN, SCN, NCS or SF 5; A" : 1-15C alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyl or alkynyl with CH 2 groups optionally replaced by O, S, SOO 2, CO, COO, OCO or OCOO, optionally substituted with one or more of halo; provided that R 1> is not COOH when B is ring f or g and B' is ring d and m : 0 and X 2> is not H or R 2> is not COOH when B' is ring f or g and B is ring d and n= 0 and X 1> is not H; and R 1>(A 1>Z 1>) m and (Z 2>A 2>) nR 2> are not CH 3 when one of X 1> and X 2> is H and the other is H or Cl and B and B' are ring g.
