The turbo machine has a rotor shaft (1), mounted in a hydrodynamic axial bearing (2) assembly, with a rotor. An additional hydrostatic axial bearing (4) is directly adjacent to the hydrodynamic bearing, which wholly takes up the axial forces on the rotor shaft when at rest. On a start-up, it relieves stresses on the hydrodynamic bearing and is switched off when the rotor shaft speed achieves a nominal level. The hydrostatic bearing has a fixed piston (5) to take up the axial forces, with its end surface (6) on the end surface (7) of the rotor shaft. At rest and on start-up the two end surfaces are held apart by a fluid pressure, through a piston drilling (8) into the gap between the end surfaces. |
