The edge deflectors, which shed falling liquid away from the column walls, are fastened to the casing of the column, distributed with spacings of 0.05-1 m or 0.05-0.2 m over its height. They are attached in columns which are divided vertically into spaces. Attachment is made in a partitioned- or separation-wall column (has an internal vertical partition). Attachment is by spot welding. The edge deflector is made of (metal) sheet, and/or wire- (or monofilament-) fabric. Over the height of the column, edge deflectors of differing materials are used, optionally in alternation. The edge deflectors contained, have a spring-loading action, hence tending to center the packing components. |
