The invention enables a user to perform an inter-node change between terminals of a communication network whilst retaining individual user settings. For this purpose, after the user has registered at a terminal (EG) coupled to a first network node (NK1), user-oriented configuration data (KD) are requested by a home network node or similar (NK2) of the user, identified by the user, and are subsequently transmitted to the first network node (NK1). The latter then initiates a user configuration to be set for the user by means of the configuration data (KD) transmitted.
