PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage system and a file management device capable of acquiring a file from a client without specifying detailed information. SOLUTION: The client 10 comprises a reading request part 400 for transmitting a reading request of a file including a file name and information showing the storage date of the file. A WORM archive server 20 comprises a file specification part 700 for extracting the file name and the information showing the storage date of the file from the reading request received from the client 10, and specifying the latest one of the files of this file name recorded before the storage date shown by the extracted information from files recorded in a storage 30, and a file transmitting part 23 for transmitting the specified data to the client 10 that is the transmitter of the request.
