PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus in which a head-mount part is miniaturized while keeping a large picture display. SOLUTION: The image display apparatus comprises: a modulated light output part 2 which outputs modulated light which is modulated according to an image information; a scanning part 4 which outputs the modulated light H outputted from the modulated light output part 2 as scanning light; and a transfer optical system 5 which is provided at the rear stage of the scanning part 4 and guides the scanning light to the pupil of an observer. The image display apparatus is characterized by being provided with: the head-mount part 6 which is mounted on the head of the observer, in which at least a part of the transfer optical system 5 among the scanning part 4 and the transfer optical system 5 is provided; and a body-carrying part 7 mounted on the body of the observer to be carried, in which at least the modulated light output part 2 among the modulated light output part 2 and the scanning part 4 is provided.
