PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polymer composition capable of readily improving damping performance. SOLUTION: The polymer composition comprises a polymer matrix, a swelling clay mineral and an active ingredient. The polymer matrix comprises a thermoplastic polymer as a main component. The method for producing the polymer composition comprises a cationizing step, an inserting step for inserting into layers, a dispersing step and a diluting step. The cationizing step is a step for carrying out cationizing treatment of the active ingredient. The step for inserting into layers is a step for obtaining an interlaminar composite by inserting the active ingredient into the interlayer of layered swelling clay mineral. The dispersing step is a step for dispersing the interlaminar composite into the thermoplastic polymer.
