PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus wherein a problem of disabled start of immediate recording is less caused against required preparation for photographing such as measurement of a distance up to an object and measurement of the lightness of the object or the like when a user instructs the image processing apparatus to start the photographing. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus is provided with a means for setting a recording time before a recording start instruction, and determines whether the recording for the setting time before the recording start instruction is possible, the recording is made for a time less than the setting time, or the recording before the recording start instruction is disabled depending on a residual time of an unrecorded time of a recording medium. Further, a time actually recorded before the recording start instruction is displayed and the display is being changed in response to the reduction in the unrecorded time of the recording medium.
