PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly efficient compressor improved in sealability by enhancing oil retention at a piston outer periphery. SOLUTION: A space volume of an annular groove 121 formed in the outer periphery of a piston 119 is set at 0.25-25 mm<SP>3</SP>. Oil retention of a capillary phenomenon can be maintained, sealing performance is improved and swirling current by a labyrinth effect is formed so that a sliding lubrication state of the piston is enhanced. Swirling current formed by the labyrinth effect maintains seal performance by the labyrinth effect and a leaking amount of refrigerant gas from a gap between the piston 119 and a cylinder 116 so that a volumetric efficiency of the compressor is improved.
