PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable power tool capable of adjusting a cutting depth accurately and simply and having good operability. SOLUTION: The portable power tool is equipped with a motor, a cylindrical housing 13, which houses the motor and has the chuck provided to the leading end of the rotary shaft of the motor to detachably hold a leading end tool, the surface plate sliding on the upper surface of a material to be shaven and enabling the leading end tool to protrude downward, a base 1 having a notch part 1c and a cylindrical part 1b having an almost C-shaped cross section and a lever 9 having a cam surface 8 on the base 1 and revolvable to a fixing position and a release position and constituted so that the interval of the notch part 1c is narrowed when the lever 9 is set to the fixing position to fix the movement of the cylindrical housing 13 in the cylindrical part 1b and the cylindrical housing 13 is made movable under its own weight when the lever 9 is present at the release position.
