PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of dealing with a print head of arbitrary head gap while reducing the processing load of a CPU. SOLUTION: The printer comprising internal memories 37 and 38 for storing image data of each color read out from an image buffer, a first counter for designating start of image data transfer of each color for every scan of a print head, and a second counter for designating end of image data transfer of each color for every scan of the print head is further provided with a head control section 31 for transferring null data before starting image data transfer based on the first counter and transferring null data after ending image data transfer based on the second counter.
