USE OF COUMARIN DERIVATIVES

The present invention relates to the use of a coumarin derivative having a coumarin skeleton of formula (I) wherein the coumarin skeleton is substituted by one OR<1> and one OR<2 >whereby R<1> is C1 to C6 alkyl, C3 to C7 cycloalkyl or C2 to C6 alkenyl and R<2> is hydrogen or a sugar moiety, for the preparation of a medicament for the prophylaxis or treatment of disorders which involve low levels of acetylcholine in the brain. The coumarin derivatives of formula (I) inhibit acetylcholinesterase in vitro and enhance acetylcholine concentration in the brain in vivo, and therefore, can ameliorate disorders connected with deficits in learning and memory functions.
