The invented clamp for fastening a railway rail, being adapted for downward holding-down the railway rail (3) and the clamp anchoring mechanism (250) is made of a bar material that is bent so that in the ground plan it has substantially the form of the letter M having the gripping part adapted for interaction with the clamp anchoring mechanism (250) for positional setting the clamp (1) in pre-assembly position relative to the corresponding part of the clamp (1') anchoring mechanism (250) when the clamp (1) is fitted thereon. The gripping part is formed by at least one of the M arms (11A', 17A') being provided with at least one positional means (A) for interacting with at least one corresponding second positional means (B) located on said part of the clamp (1) anchoring mechanism (250). The first positional means (A) is performed in the form of a projection fitting in a corresponding recess of the second positional means (B) on the anchoring mechanism (250), or a recess (18) in which a projection of the second positional means fits. The first positional means (A) is provided on both sides with entering lands extending in the direction of the clamp (1') insertion into said anchoring mechanism (250).
