A bag is formed from a sheet of material to which a thermoplastic coating is applied, the sheet then being folded into a tube with the coating inside. A longitudinal heat-seal is formed to secure the tube, and after the provision of gusset folds along the tube, it is heatsealed transversely to form the bag bottom. The completed bag is severed from the tube below the transverse seam, and expanded so as to provide a rectangular base. The material of the bag may be paper, metal foil, or cloth fabric &c., and the coating may be applied by means of a roller, by spraying, or by laminating a sheet of suitable thermoplastic material to the bag stock. Both sides of the bag material may be coated.</p> |
