An ink jet print cartridge having a compact electrical interconnect structure that includes a contact array (70). The contact array (70) includes a plurality of side by side pairs of columnar arrays (73, 73') of electrical contact areas disposed on a front wall (24) of the print cartridge, each pair spanning at least 70% of a height of a region (R) enclosing an area occupied by the contact array. The columnar array (73, 73') of each pair diverging from each other in a direction towards the bottom portion of the cartridge.
