PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed change controller for a continuously variable transmission capable of favorably realizing acceleration response of a vehicle without causing shock of acceleration and deceleration in quick speed change control of the continuously variable transmission having high response property. SOLUTION: When actual input number of rotation (solid line) exceeds target input number of rotation Npri<SB>*</SB>a (broken line), occurrence of overshooting is detected to perform transient control. In the transient control, temporary target input number of rotation Npri<SB>*</SB>k (thick line) is calculated, and actual input number of rotation (solid line) follows the temporary target input number of rotation (thick line). First, during fixed time Th, the temporary target input number of rotation Npri<SB>*</SB>k (thick line) is maintained at a target input number of rotation initial value Nprij_p. After the fixed time Th elapses, the temporary target input number of rotation Npri<SB>*</SB>k (thick line) is calculated so that the temporary target input number of rotation Npri<SB>*</SB>k (thick line) is gradually changed toward the target input number of rotation Npri<SB>*</SB>a (broken line). Consequently, actual input number of rotation (thick line) is maintained at the target input number of rotation initial value Nprij_p for the fixed time Th, and actual input number of rotation (thick line) is converged toward the target input number of rotation Npri<SB>*</SB>a after maintenance.
