<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the throughput of an apparatus by shortening a switch time in an image forming apparatus composed of a plurality of development units provided with development apparatuses. <P>SOLUTION: The four development apparatuses 43Y, 43M, 43C and 43K for color printing are used to hold the two development apparatuses 43Y and 43C on the rotary development unit 41. The residual two development apparatuses 43M and 43K are held on the rotary development unit 42. Thus, while the development apparatuses 43Y and 43C held on one rotary development unit 41 carry out a developing process as the active development apparatuses, the other rotary development unit 42 is rotated and moved, and a developing roller 45 provided on the development apparatuses 43M and 43K as the next active development apparatuses is positioned at a development position facing a photoreceptor 22. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
