PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having excellent running durability and rust-preventive properties and capable of realizing stable lubricant characteristics. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has a magnetic layer 2, a protective layer 3 and a lubricant layer 4 which are formed on a non-magnetic substrate 1. The lubricant layer 4 contains a partially fluorinated monoester monocarboxylic acid consisting of two structural isomers and the content ratio of the partially fluorinated monoester monocarboxylic acid consisting of the two structural isomers is numerically specified.
