PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable optical fiber module in which a lead terminal is improved into a surface mounting type capable of performing a lead-free reflow when mounted on a mounting substrate. SOLUTION: The optical fiber module 1 is covered with a shield case 2. A housing 5 as a resin molding is bonded to a light receiving and emitting device 4, and hollow parts 5a, 5b into which mounting parts of an optical element are stored and an insertion port 5c to which an insertion part 3b of an optical fiber 3 is inserted and an engagement pin 3a is engaged is formed. Through-holes 6a as a plurality of external connection electrodes are formed on a side surface of a wiring substrate 6 made of glass-epoxy resin etc. The end surfaces of the through-holes 6a are evenly exposed on the bottom surface on which an opening of the shield case 2 is formed. An LED 7 as a light emission element and a light emission IC 8 as well as a PD i9 as a light receiving element and a light receiving IC 10 are mounted on the same wiring substrate 6 and are wired. The LED 7 and the light emission IC 8 as well as the PD i9 and the light receiving IC 10 are respectively sealed by a sealing resin 11 which transmits visible light. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
