PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent lamp capable of improving in safety even against abnormal high temperature at end of life of a lamp or the like. SOLUTION: The lamp is provided with a glass bulb 2 with discharge medium sealed in, a phosphor layer 4 formed on the inside face of the glass bulb, a pair of electrodes 6, 6 arranged so as to generate discharge inside the bulb, a metal ring 7 surrounding the electrodes, and a flare stem 5 supporting a support wire 10 supporting the metal ring as well as a pair of inner lead wires 9 supporting the electrodes.
