The invention relates to an external USB memory, in particular a USB memory stick, which is connected to the computer via a USB interface. The USB memory stick comprises: a first memory which can be accessed by the computer and which acts as an external data storage unit for the computer when the BUS memory stick is connected to the computer; a microcontroller; a second memory in which firmware is stored for execution by the microcontroller; a timer device; wherein the firmware is configured in such a way that when it is executed by a microcontroller the following functions can be carried out: comparison of stored time information with the time indicated by the timer; creation of an optical or acoustic reminder signal for the user if the time indicated by the time sensor corresponds to the stored time information. The US memory stick also comprises a USB slot for connecting an additional USB memory via its USB connector to the USB slot of the USB memory stick.
