<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently protect a pedestrian by flipping up a vehicular hood at the time of collision with the pedestrian. <P>SOLUTION: When the collision with the pedestrian is detected or expected by detection signals from a millimeter wave radar, an image sensor, and a load sensor, a flip-up actuator 16 is actuated to operate link mechanisms 12, 13, thereby flipping up the hood 11. Concerning flipping up of the hood 11, flip-up position adjusting actuators 21, 22 are controlled according to the traveling speed of a vehicle and the height of the pedestrian, so that the faster the traveling speed of the vehicle is and the larger the height of the pedestrian is, the larger the hood is flipped up backward. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
