<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform operation such as varying setup of an aspect ratio of a display screen without increasing the number of operating keys in a remote controller, requiring any dedicated key and displaying a setup picture on the display screen in a television receiver status setting change apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: An aspect conversion circuit is provided for making different an aspect displayed on a video signal display screen 3, an aspect change mode is provided in response to an input signal from a remote controller, and characters or numerals corresponding to specific key and numeral key inputs of the remote controller for changing the aspect are displayed on the display screen 3. The aspect of a video image to be displayed on the display screen 3 is previewed in accordance with the characters or numerals, and the aspect is changed.
