PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply an edge correction processing selectively only to a low frequency edge by extracting the low frequency edge with slow change from difference between a wideband filter and a narrowband filter in correcting image edges. SOLUTION: The image edge correction device 10 is provided with a signal inputting part 11 for dividing an image signal into a luminance signal Y and a chroma signal C to input them, the narrowband filer 17 for extracting a prescribed frequency component from the inputted luminance signal Y, the wideband filter 16 for extracting a frequency component wider than the narrowband filter 17 does, a low frequency edge area extracting part 18 for extracting a low frequency edge area from difference between frequency components extracted by the narrowband filter 17 and the wideband filter 16, and a luminance correcting part 19 for generating a correction signal for the low frequency edge area and adding the generated correction signal to the luminance signal Y to generate a luminance correction signal. The luminance correcting part 19 clamps the luminance correction signal on the basis of a range determined from the luminance signal Y and subsequently outputs the clamped luminance correction signal.
