PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To raise temperature of an intake system without causing degradation of exhaust emission. SOLUTION: Temperature raising operation M1 to raise temperature of the intake system until temperature of intake gas reaches predetermined temperature T°C under a condition that fuel supply by a fuel injection valve is stopped at a time of engine start. A crankshaft is driven and rotated by a starter motor (crank drive device) and close timing of an exhaust valve is advanced earlier than close timing of the intake valve by an exhaust valve timing variable mechanism and open timing of the intake valve is advanced before exhaust top dead center by an intake valve timing mechanism in the temperature raising operation M1.
