PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for chipping concrete in a narrow space, which apparatus can quickly and efficiently carry out chipping work in any narrow space by a remote operation. SOLUTION: The apparatus for chipping concrete comprises a vertically movable carriage 12, an elevator stand 13 attached to the vertically movable carriage 12, a turn table 14 provided on the elevator stand 13, a guide rail member 17 supported by a supporting frame 16 at both ends thereof, the supporting frame 16 being mounted on the turn table 14 via a tilt mechanism 15, a travelling carriage 19 which is arranged on a guide rail member 17 and travels on the guide rail member 17 by a rack and pinion mechanism 18, a nozzle supporting member 20 which is mounted on the travelling carriage 19 and protrudes its one end portion from the end portion of the supporting frame 16, a water jet nozzle 24 which is provided at the tip end portion of the nozzle supporting member 20 and carries out the chipping work of a concrete structure 21 by being inserted into the narrow space, a high pressure water generating means 25 for supplying high pressure water to the water jet nozzle 24, and a control unit 26 for the respective members described above.
