<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection system having two reflection type display panels to optimize the contrast ratio of the system and the color threshold of a projected image. <P>SOLUTION: The projection system which is a two-part projection system is provided with a dichroic filtering device (204) optically arranged between a polarizing beam splitter (203) constituted so as to split light from a light source (201) into light beams of desired polarization and a plurality of refractive display devices (205, 206) constituted so as to receive respective light beams from the dichroic filtering device (204), direct them back thereto and provide a combined light beam which is re-incident on the polarizing beam splitter (203) to previously prevent undesired polarized light from being projected.
