[Class 52 (ii)] In an adjustable reclining chair or the like wherein a seat, a back rest and a link chain comprising a number of connecting links form the movable members of a link-system swingably mounted on a fixed support and wherein the movements of a leg rest, swingably mounted on the seat are controlled by a controlling means, the leg rest is controlled by a controlling link one end of which is pivoted to a link of the link chain and the other end to the leg rest. As shown the back rest 214 and seat 218 are pivoted at 216 to a support 210 and are interconnected by a link chain consisting of a front link 222 and a top link 226 the link system being guided in its movements by a guiding link 236 pivoted to the support at 238 and to the top link 226 at 270. The leg-rest controlling link 248 is pivoted at 272 to the front connecting link 222 and at 252 to an extension 244 of the leg rest 240. Limiting stops 254, 256 are provided to define the seating and the extreme reclining positions and a locking arrangement 258 is provided to clamp the movable parts together and so lock the chair in any desired adjusted position. In modifications the back rest and seat may be pivoted to the support at spaced points, an intermediate link may be introduced between the front and the top links, one end of the controlling link may be pivoted to the top link or an extension thereof, or to an extension of the front link or to the pivot between the front and top links while the other end of the controlling link may be pivoted to the leg rest itself instead of to an extension thereof and the guiding link may be replaced by guiding means incorporating sliding means. |
