Method of reducing the damage on heating installations and liquid, low-sulphur fuel

Avoiding damage to heating plants comprises testing liquid sulfur-deficient fuel, especially diesel oil or heating oil, for its potentially erosive effects when combusted in heating plants. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) a device for testing liquid sulfur-deficient fuel, especially diesel oil or heating oil, for its potentially erosive effects when combusted in heating plants; (ii) a liquid sulfur-deficient fuel, especially heating oil, with added antioxidant; and (iii) a burner having an oil nozzle and an igniter. Preferred Features: A testing surface is provided close to which the fuel is sprayed and the fuel spray is subjected to an electrical voltage field and inflamed. The plasma produced when the fuel is inflamed is subjected to an electrical voltage field. The testing surface is made from a steel alloy, and is preferably an electrode.
