The invention concerns a circuit for converting an alternating voltage into direct voltage. Two controlled switches (S1, S2) replace a bridge rectifier. A choke (L1) precedes the circuit, so that in addition to rectifying function, a power factor correction is also possible. The circuit features a center voltage at the output, which enables the circuit to generate a rectangular load current with the aid of two further switches.
