A digital projection display (20) includes a light source (22) producing as an output a light beam (24), an integrator (28) that receives the light beam (24) from the light source (22), an illumination lens (30) that receives the light beam (24) from the integrator (28), an illumination fold mirror (32) that receives the light beam (24) from the illumination lens (30), a light director (33) such as a TIR prism that receives the light beam (24) from the illumination fold mirror (32), and a digital light modulator (36) that receives the light beam (24) from the light director (33), spatially modulates the light beam (24), and sends the light beam (24) back to the light director (33) in a spatially modulated form. The digital projection display (20) further has a projection lens (40) that receives the light beam (24) in the spatially modulated form from the light director (33), wherein the projection lens (40) has at least a first projection lens element (42) and a second projection lens element (44) spaced apart from the first projection lens element (42), a projection lens fold mirror (46) disposed between the first projection lens element (42) and the second projection lens element (44), wherein the light beam (24) passes through the first projection lens element (42), reflects from the projection lens fold mirror (46), and passes through the second projection lens element (44), and a projection fold mirror (48) that receives the light beam (24) from the projection lens (40) and redirects the light beam (24) preferably to a screen (52). |
