PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance stability and reliability in the protection of a mold by certainly discriminating whether foreign matter is held in a mold even with respect to a extremely thin sheetlike molded product and avoiding trouble bringing about erroneous detection or detection failure. SOLUTION: A predetermined mold protecting section is set to the clossing section of the mold 1 and the abnormality caused by foreign matter or the like is detected on the basis of fluctuations of physical quantity in the mold protecting section to protect the mold 1. A mold clamping position Cs is preliminarily detected. The finish position Xf of a mold clamping montor, which detects that at least the molded product is held between the molds 1 on the basis of the thickness of the mold clamping position Cs and the thickness of the molded product, is set on this side of the mold clamping position Cs. The fluctuation quantity of physical quantity associated with the clamping of the mold 1 is detected at the time of production operation.
