PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method in which unevenness of membrane thickness of a functional layer is eliminated and the optical property of an electro-optical device manufactured can be improved. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the electro-optical device is a method of manufacturing an electro-optical device equipped with a structure capable of selectively driving an electro-optical layer for each picture element 71, and comprises a functional layer forming process for forming a functional layer 140 by selectively applying a liquid composition for each picture element 71, and in the functional layer forming process, includes a groove forming process for forming a stripe-shape groove 141a for dispersing the liquid composition applied in the application object surface on the surface of the application object, before applying the liquid composition.
