PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner capable of effectively restraining damage to expansion valves after stopping operation or after turning off a thermostat. SOLUTION: This air conditioner 1 has an outdoor heat exchanger 21 arranged outdoors, and an indoor heat exchanger 31 arranged indoors; and performs cooling, heating or cooling-heating of the inside of a room by exchanging heat indoors and outdoors by circulating a refrigerant between these heat exchangers 21 and 31. The air conditioner 1 comprises the outdoor expansion valve 22 for restricting a flow passage of the refrigerant flowing in the outdoor heat exchanger 21, the indoor expansion valve 32 for restricting the flow passage of the refrigerant flowing in the indoor heat exchanger 32, and a liquid pipe 51 connecting the outdoor expansion valve 22 to the indoor expansion valve 32 and forming the flow passage of the refrigerant. The air conditioner 1 opens the indoor expansion valve 22 up to predetermined opening after closing the outdoor expansion valve 22 and the indoor expansion valve 32 after stopping heating operation or after turning off thermoatat in the heating operation.
