PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plug opening device capable of setting a direction of a container after its plug opening to the same direction as that before opening the plug. SOLUTION: This plug opening device of this invention is a plug opening device in which a seal-like plug tab for use in sealing an upper end opening of a tubular container is held, the tab is pulled up relatively in respect to the container to open the plug. This plug opening device comprises a container rotating mechanism having a container rotating motor and a power force transmitting mechanism for rotating the container by a driving force of the container rotating motor around its central axis, a tab pulling-up part having a slant surface abutted against the tab to cause the tab to be raised as the container is rotated, a chuck mechanism for holding the tab, an upward/downward driving mechanism for relatively moving up or down the chuck mechanism in respect to the container, a container rotating motor rotating amount sensor means for use in sensing a rotating amount of the container roating motor, and a control means for controlling a rotating amount of the container rotating motor in such a way that a direction of the container upon completion of the rotation of the container may occupy the same direction as that before its rotation.
