PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deformation detection member having a simple constitution and a structure hardly damaged even when greatly deformed, and to provide an irregularity detection method for detecting irregularities on the object surface by deformation detected by the deformation detection member. SOLUTION: This deformation detection member has a capsule 1 having viscous fluid F inside and generating deformation by stress applied thereto; and a deformation detection means 2 positioned on the inner surface of the capsule 1, for detecting relative movement with the viscous fluid F generated when the capsule 1 is deformed. The member preferably has also a presentation part comprising a light emission body emitting light corresponding to a detection result by the deformation detection means 2. In this irregularity detection method which is an irregularity detection method for detecting irregularities of the object, the deformation detection member and the object are moved relatively in the state where the deformation detection member abuts on the object surface.
