PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for centering a liner of a stern tube sealing device capable of centering the liner with high accuracy by a simple operation, unnecessary for drydocking a ship, and capable of centering the liner even at a fabricating plate of the ship and considerably enhancing the productivity. SOLUTION: The method for centering a liner of a stern tube sealing device in which a propeller shaft of a propeller having a propeller boss part is passed through and an outer circumference thereof is slidably brought into contact with a packing comprises a propeller shaft deviation measuring step of measuring the distance (A) between a plurality of predetermined points on the outer circumference or the like of the propeller boss part on the stern tube side and the outer circumference of the axis of the propeller shaft, a liner deviation measuring step of measuring the distance (B) between the predetermined points on (a) the outer circumference or the like of the propeller boss part and the outer circumference of the axis of the liner, and a liner position adjusting step of adjusting the fixed position of the liner so that the dispersion of the difference (A-B) at each predetermined point between the distance (A) and the distance (B) is within a predetermined range.
