PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently and economically advantageously detoxifying organic halogen compounds (for example, dioxins) contained in a liquid. SOLUTION: An organic halogen compound-containing liquid is brought into contact with a catalyst (for example, a palladium-carrying alumina catalyst) in the presence of a hydrogen donating compound (for example, an alcohol such as methanol, and a carboxylic acid such as formic acid or its alkaline salt).
