PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quality improvement method of an alcohol which method improves the value of a potassium permanganate test, i.e., the index of alcohol quality, of an alcohol (sometimes called an oxoalcohol) produced by hydrogenating an aldehyde prepared by hydroformylating an olefin. SOLUTION: In the quality improvement method of an alcohol, a generated oxoalcohol is brought into contact with an atmosphere with an oxygen concentration lower than 5 vol.%; otherwise, the alcohol is kept in contact with an atmosphere with an oxygen concentration lower than 5 vol.% until the value of a potassium permanganate test becomes longer by 100 sec or more.
