PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein a conventional optical waveguide element needs to be provided with an intermediate layer, when it is formed by sticking together substrates having nearly equal refractive indexes, and then it becomes expensive. SOLUTION: An optical element formed, by directly jointing an optically polished 1st substrate and an optically polished 2nd substrate 2 together has an optical waveguide 5 in the 1st substrate, and has fine voids 3 on a directly jointed surface 4 at least below the optical waveguide 5. Consequently, no intermediate layer is necessary, and the optical element becomes low-priced and is improved in the jointing strength. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
