PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for joining metallic materials capable of improving the strength of a joint in joining the metallic materials made finer in crystal grains. SOLUTION: The crystal structures of the two metallic materials are subjected to structure control to micronize the average grain size of the metallic materials to≤10μm in a first step. As a result, the crystal structures of the metallic materials are made finer in grains and the metallic materials having high strength and high toughness can be obtained. Next, the metallic materials are subjected to the friction agitation joining in a second step. As a result, the strength of the joint is maintained and the metallic materials can be joined without coarsening the crystal grains made finer than in the joining by melt welding.
