An electrochemically reacting composition which can be utilized as a source of heat as well as hydrogen, comprising the active materials aluminium, magnesium and iron, a filler material such as a silica sand, an hydrogen scavenger such as potassium permanganate, additives such as sodium silicate and an electrolyte such as sodium chloride.
