<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for performing face image authentication without exposing an original face image of a person stored inside an IC card 20. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of characteristic points are set for either of the original face image and a reference face image in a registration terminal 10, characteristic points matching the set characteristic points are found from the other face image, and then, the characteristic points of the original face image and the reference face image are registered in the IC card 20. In authentication, an authentication terminal 30 reads the characteristic points of the reference face image from the IC card 20, finds characteristic points corresponding to those of the reference face image from a photographed face image, and writes the characteristic points of the photographed image in the IC card 20. The IC card 20 collates the characteristic points of the original face image with those of the photographed face image to determine whether or not the photographed image matches the original face image. In this personal authentication method, the original face image data registered in the IC card 20 are not exposed to the outside of the IC card 20 during authentication, so that security and privacy of the original face image can be protected. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
