PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection target detection system for verifying the presence or absence of the existence of a detection target. SOLUTION: In the detection target detection system A for detecting whether a detection target D is present around a detector R by using a detection tag T provided at the detection target D, the detection tag T comprises a radio wave reception means for receiving radio waves transmitted by the detector R, a light receiving means for receiving light applied by the detector, a reception report signal generation means for generating a reception report signal when radio waves and light are received, and a transmission means for transmitting the reception report signal by radio. The detector R comprises a radio wave transmission means for transmitting radio waves to the peripheral region of the detector, a reception means for receiving a reception report signal, an emission means for applying light toward a search region set around the detector, a control means for controlling them, and a target position specifying means for obtaining distance to the detection target D from the detector R from the strength of the reception report signal and setting the emission direction of light applied by the emission means to be the direction where the detection target is present.
