PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical method for manufacturing an ethylene polymer having an alkyl branching chain. SOLUTION: This ethylene polymer is manufactured by supplying ethylene as a monomer component and performing polymerization using the following components (i)-(iii) as catalyst components: (i) a transition metal compound represented by formulae [1] or [2], wherein M is a group IV transition metal atom; Cp<SP>1</SP>and Cp<SP>2</SP>are each a group having a cyclopentadiene-type anion skeleton, X<SP>1</SP>-X<SP>4</SP>are each a hydrogen atom, halogen atom, hydrocarbon group, hydrocarbonoxy group, or the like, Z is a specific divalent group; Y is a divalent hydrocarbon group bonded to M by means of an oxygen atom, sulfur atom, nitrogen atom or phosphorus atom, and T is a hydrocarbonoxy group, disubstituted amino group, or the like; (ii) a chromium compound represented by formula 3 (CrJ<SB>j</SB>K<SB>k</SB>[3]), wherein j is an integer of 0-5, k is an integer of 0-6, 3≤j+k≤6, J is an oxygen atom, halogen atom, hydrocarbon group, hydrocarbonoxy group, or the like, and K is a group bonded to a chromium atom by means of a lone electron pair orπelectron; or (iii) a specific aluminum compound and/or boron compound.
