<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a tact time by efficiently recognizing components. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus is constituted to attract a component from a component supplying unit 4 with a head unit 6, and then to mount the component on a printed circuit board 3. A mirror 32 is allocated between the component supplying unit 4 and the printed circuit board 3. A camera unit 20 is movably supported with the supporting member 11 of the head unit 6, and this unit 20 is provided with a mounted camera 22 provided with a line sensor. In this apparatus, the head unit 6 is moved after attracting the component to the imaging start position (on the mirror 32) at the area near the attracting operation ending position. On the other hand, a component observed on the mirror 32 is picked up with a first camera 22 when the camera unit 20 moves to the position corresponding to the imaging start position and the head unit 6 also relatively moves with respect to the same camera unit 20.
